The most central of all Hot Springs NC accommodations — Iron Horse Station sits in the heart of downtown, steps from Bridge Street, the AT, the mineral springs, and every restaurant in town. The 1890s landmark inn has been extensively restored and offers 15 guest rooms, each with private bathroom, handcrafted beds, transom windows, and mountain views. Room styles are named after Pullman sleeper cars. Some rooms feature Jacuzzi tubs. There’s a guest lounge with fireplace, large-screen TV, and free Wi-Fi throughout. No TVs or phones in rooms — by design.

Now under new ownership by Mark and Ladda Salter as of spring 2026, the inn is operating alongside the newly relaunched restaurant and tavern. Tripadvisor reviewers from prior ownership consistently praised the historic charm — “such a cute, clean historic hotel” and “so old timey, we loved that we could walk out of our room and down the stairs for dinner and drinks.” One practical note: trains pass through at approximately 3am and 6am — light sleepers should know.

Mountain Magnolia operates as a traditional Hot Springs NC bed and breakfast with private rooms, a Stone Cabin on Spring Creek with outdoor hot tub and wraparound deck, and breakfast served on the outdoor patio of the historic main house. The grounds feature ancient trees, gardens, and Spring Creek running through the property.

When open, it is one of the most beloved Hot Springs NC lodging options — a historic 1892 lodge at the southern AT trailhead, literally the first building thru-hikers encounter entering Hot Springs from the south. The lodge offers individually decorated rooms (the Monarch Room features a king bed, mountain view, and deep soaking tub), continental breakfast, and a 9.8 rating on Booking.com. The adjacent hostel caters to AT hikers with bunk rooms, shared kitchen, and laundry service. Worth bookmarking for when it reopens.

All guests get discounted access to the mineral spring soaking pools across the road.

The riverside tent sites are the star — site F1, the deluxe riverside group site, shows up in multiple travel blogs as one of the best campsites in western NC. Campendium and Tripadvisor reviewers consistently praise the river access, the walkability to town, and the unique combination of camping and mineral spring soaking. RV campers note it’s one of the very few campgrounds where you can park and walk to restaurants and a brewery.
