Meet Rose Weinberg: Intuitive Bodywork and Massage with a Mountain Vibe

Rose Weinberg Rose's Mountain Massage

Rose Weinberg is a licensed massage therapist based in Burnsville, North Carolina and in her eleventh year of practice. She blends bodywork with energy techniques, including deep tissue, Swedish, cranial sacral therapy, reiki, acupressure, polarity, and sound healing.   “I use everything in my tool belt. I combine,” she says. “Despite the misconception, there’s a way to do deep tissue properly without anyone hurting and they get the full benefits of what it can do.” Rose Weinberg is where body awareness meets nervous system meets energetic balance.

Rose Weinberg’s Journey in the Healing Arts Began with Photography, Friends, Music, and a Game-Changing Encounter

Rose got into massage therapy via photography.   “I was the photographer for my best friend, who was a performer and stage musician. He had sciatic issues from his work. I’d not only work on him but oddly enough also for one of our stagehands – he was also an MMA fighter and he had injuries.  The language that came so easily to me was through touch and I was very good at desexualizing the body.” In other words, she instinctively knows how to maintain clear, respectful boundaries that made people feel comfortable and cared for.  “I was so good it inspired me to go to school and learn how to do it professionally.”

This is where kismet enters the scene.  Her first massage job came during an art event in downtown Los Angeles. “It was even before I got my license—I was doing some back massaging at Artwalk in downtown LA. A spa owner sat in my chair and then proceeded to hire me on the spot, and she didn’t care I was still in school.

That spa owner was Deisy Suarez-Giles, founder of DESUAR Spa.

Why is it so important we mention this?  Because Deisy Suarez-Giles is a genuine icon in the spa world. She built a DESUAR Spa on the rooftop of a high-rise in downtown LA, and has since expanded into Hollywood and Los Feliz. This woman was also renowned for visiting and massaging in more than 150 spas around the world to learn how to blend luxury with wellness.  Deisy Suarez-Giles has been prominently featured in national publications, and her philosophy essentially helped shape that high-end niche within the wellness industry.

Deisy hired Rose on the spot BEFORE she was licensed to work.  This industry pillar knew Rose had the right stuff.

From there, Rose didn’t stop – she advanced with sound healing training at the Globe Institute in San Francisco and studied “tapotement”—a rhythmic technique for sports massage and nervous system regulation.  And when she returned to LA, she signed back on with Massage Envy in both of their North Hollywood and Pasadena locations. “They basically taught me how to be organized with paperwork and how to be perceived as a medical professional. We wore nurse’s garb — that’s how we were presented.”

How about an Outdoors Office?

Rose Weinberg moved to Asheville just before the pandemic. Once restrictions were lifted, she took a position at the downtown, Spa Theology.  According to Rose, it was great work but it didn’t align with her long-term vision.  “I wasn’t able to engage in my energetic practices I love so much. They essentially were deep tissue or Swedish – that’s it.  And I wanted to expand beyond that.  Also,” she chuckled, “Even though I worked there I couldn’t afford a massage. I didn’t want to only work with wealthy tourists. I wanted work with my local community.”

Today Rose works in her own studio, has two different residencies such as in hotels and community centers, and makes house-calls throughout western North Carolina up to an hour and a half away.  “I like going on location and dipping into people’s world—come to them in their preferred setting,” she says.  “I love people who appreciate nature. I love massaging outside. So if there’s a deck, backyard, or front—it doesn’t have to be inside. I love the idea of grounding people with nature.”

Yeah, but how about waterfalls?

Her sessions are dominated with weekly regulars and monthly clients. But also, she’s a favorite for massage retreats and private events.

Who She Resonates With Most

There’s no specific type she sees more often, but admittedly Rose is especially attracted to those who place demands on their body.  “I resonate most with people who are active and aware of their bodies, or becoming aware and want to make improvements with their functionality,” she says. She says she has a great sense of what muscles need—she listens, adjusts, and responds to what she detects. She’s all about full presence
